Richard (Rick) V. Geraci attended Catholic schools from 1st through 12th grade, and graduated from Rome Catholic High School in Rome, NY. Marihelen Bassett is originally from Ottawa, IL, where she attended Catholic schools from first thru 12th grades. She attended Quincy College, a Franciscan school in Quincy, IL, to study music. Annie Hernandez is a first generation living in the US from San Juan Puerto Rico. She was raised in a military family and married into a military family. She attended Catholic schools in Cookville, TN; Miami, FL; Caracas, Venezuela; and San Juan, PR, graduating from the San Antonio Catholic School in San Juan ‘78. Annie graduated with a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Puerto Rico ’81 and holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University of Saint Mary ’11. She has served with the Guidance Center in Leavenworth before starting with LRCSS. She has taught CCD for 8 years and is currently serving as a Spanish speaking prison minister in Lansing. Her family has lived 12 years in Leavenworth. She has two daughters, Ana Julia ’09 and Priscila a senior at IMAC, who have gone through the LRCSS from elementary through high school. Priscila, is graduating IMAC '16 and will be starting St. Louis University (SLU) this coming fall.

Mary Jane Schmitz, SCL, attended Catholic schools from 1st grade through graduate school. She went to Holy Name School in Sheridan, WY, from 1st to 8th grade; Sacred Heart School in Miles City, MT, from 9th to12th grade, and the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, KS, where she earned a degree in elementary education. She also has a master’s in elementary administration from the University of Dayton in Dayton, OH. Schmitz worked 24 years as a teacher in Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and Kansas.  She also spent 26 years as an elementary principal in Wyoming and Montana and 12 years as Director of Faith Development of Xavier Catholic School in Leavenworth. Mary Stean attended grade school at Sacred Heart in Bonner Springs, Kansas and Linwood Kansas High School. She has been married to Larry Stean for 45 years and has five children, sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Stean has worked in the custodial field for 30+ years. She has worked for Basehor, Tonganoxie, DeSoto, McLouth and Eudora School District. She attended many workshops for the custodial field. She is married to a retired military officer and has three daughters, all of whom graduated from Immaculata High School: Kaitlynn is a First Lieutenant in the US Army and currently deployed to Iraq; Olivia is a junior at Rockhurst University, and Hannah will be a freshman at K-State this year. Her teaching experience has followed her husband’s military career which ended in retirement here at Fort Leavenworth, where she happily put down roots and accepted the Xavier Kindergarten position in 2008.

Stacy Vardiman attended Xavier Catholic School and is a 1988 graduate of Immaculata High School. Janet Meyer graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1982 with a bachelor of science in education. Phillip Brice is a graduate of the University of Saint Mary ’05. After graduation, Phillip worked as a case manager at the Grossman Center, a federal reentry house. Phillip returned to USM to obtain his certification in Elementary Education in 2009. His student teaching experience was completed under the mentorship of Xavier’s own Janet Meyer. Phillip was also awarded substitute teacher of the year for the 2013-2014 school year by Morgan Hunter Education. Phillip is married to Jodie Brice, a kindergarten teacher for Leavenworth public schools. He has a son, Kaden Brice, who will start his schooling at Xavier in the fall of 2015.

Cindi Thiele was born on Good Friday and grew up in New Castle, DE, where she attended St. Peter's Catholic School. She attended the University of Delaware, the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and graduated from the University of Saint Mary with a bachelor of science in business administration. She later returned to USM and earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She has been teaching computer applications at Xavier since 1995. She also operated the libraries at the former Kickapoo and Osage campuses of Xavier starting in 1999, and she continues in that role at the Muncie campus. In addition, she coached volleyball at Xavier from 1996-2016, when she retired from coaching. Her husband has been a dentist in Leavenworth for over 30 years. They have four children, three of whom graduated from IMAC: Bill, Chris ‘99, Cara ‘02 and Alison ’01.  Three of their grandchildren now go to Xavier Catholic School.

Amanda (Mandy) Mroszczak attended Catholic Schools from 1st through 12th grade and beyond. She graduated from Resurrection High School then attended two years at Loyola University - also in Chicago, IL. Her various volunteer opportunities directed her to graduate from St. Mary College in Leavenworth, KS with a bachelor of science in education in 1995. Her first official teaching position was at the Saudi Arabian International School - Riyadh for one year.  Since 1996, Mandy has held various full- and part-time roles as a teacher in the Leavenworth Catholic School System: middle school religion, math and science being among her favorites. She retains membership in the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) since 2004 and Kansas Association of Teachers of Science (KATS). Currently holds a Kansas Professional Teacher’s License K-6 with a highly qualified designation in middle school education science content area. In those thirty years, he has taught PE K-12 and health and has been athletic director, assistant principal, dean of students and disciplinary advocate. While at the Catholic schools, he has coached volleyball, basketball and track. Jessica Stroub obtained two bachelor of music degrees in music education and church music with a vocal emphasis from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO. This is her second year teaching at both Xavier and Immaculata. She currently teaches K through 6th grade general music, junior high choir and high school choir. Tracy Heim attended Xavier Elementary and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1989. Heim has an associate degree in liberal arts with a strong emphasis in early childhood education. She worked 9 years at Ft. Leavenworth CDC as a lead classroom teacher, was a parent educator through the Ft. Leavenworth Parents as Teacher Program and did some substitute teaching at Xavier Pre-School. She also spent five years with Sprint World Headquarters as a 911 analyst working with network engineers for data collection. Heim was an administrative assistant for the Public Works Department of the City of Lansing prior to taking the position at IMAC.  Heim grew up as a member of the St. Joseph /Immaculate Conception Parish in Leavenworth and is currently involved in her parish at St. Joseph of the Valley.  She is married to Mark Heim and has 4 children: Andrew, a recent college graduate; college students Kayla and Cody, and Jake, a 7th grader at Xavier Catholic School.

Sue Ann Lednicky, a Colorado native, attended Otero Junior College in LaJunta, CO, and went on to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley where she graduated in 1981 with a degree in business and office education. She taught a year at Lenora (Kansas) High School, which was later consolidated with Norton High School. Lednicky went on to work 18 years in the business world as an administrative assistant, hospital billing clerk, accounts payable clerk and high school principal administrative assistant. She taught outreach classes in Ellsworth, KS, for Barton County Community College from 1989 to1995. In August 2000, she returned to teaching full-time.  She taught business at Lansing High School for nine years before coming to Immaculata High School. She has four children, two of whom graduated from Immaculata High School: John ’01 and Paul ’14, and three grandchildren. During most of his years in Leavenworth, Jensen has been a volunteer lay prison minister, first at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks (1988 to 1992) and then at the U.S. Penitentiary (1992 to present). In things that matter most, Mr. Jensen's principal educator has been his wife, Rita, followed by their four children and fourteen grandchildren; his inspiration to pursue that course of study began with Chaucer's "Wife of Bath's Tale."

Barbara Scherer attended St. James Catholic School in Franklin, WI through 8th grade. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with double majors in english and history in education. Barb and her husband of 43 years, Jim, have three daughters, all of whom are teachers. The youngest, and IMAC grad, teaches at St. James Academy in Lenexa. Brice Atherton obtained a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Southern Indiana and a Master of Science in Physical Education from Indiana State University. Atherton earned his Professional License by going through the Transition to Teaching program at Fort Hays State University.  Prior to coming to Immaculata he worked in the strength and conditioning field working with athletes ranging from youth to the collegiate level, military personnel and general population. He also holds certifications as a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach and NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist.

John Kuckelman attended St. Paul’s Catholic School in Olathe, KS. He joined the United States Air Force upon graduation from Olathe High School. After serving four years in the Air Force, he graduated from Kansas University with a degree in electrical engineering. He then worked for 30 years as a software engineer, most recently Cerner Corporation. In May 2015, after completing 2 years of course work at Ottawa University, John was licensed to teach mathematics in Kansas. John has five children, 3 grandchildren and has been married for over 30 years.

Kaitlin Hammersla attended Catholic schools in Dallas, Texas from 3rd grade to 12th grade, graduating from Ursuline Academy of Dallas. Genevieve Stoops is excited to return to home to Catholic schools after completing a Bachelor of Music Education with Instrumental Concentration at Missouri Western State University. While at MWSU,she was a member of the honors program, and involved in the Catholic Newman Center, President of the National Association for Music Educators, served the head drum major of the marching band, and symphoic winds ensemble.  She has been an active member of a variety of music ensembles for over ten years. Ms. Stoops’s main instrument is flute and has additional experience on saxophone, clarinet, cello, trombone, and percussion. She has also been student teaching and offering music theory tutoring and private lessons. She has helped teach multiple years at the Saint James Academy Band Camp and as a clinician for a few other high schools. Ms. Stoops’s family currently lives in Lenexa, though they originally hail from Chicago. She is the youngest of four children.

Jessica Stroub obtained two bachelor of music degrees in music education and church music with a vocal emphasis from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO. She is certified in vocal music for K through 12th grade in Kansas and Missouri. Stroub has directed and performed in numerous theatre productions within the last six years. This is her third year teaching at both Xavier and Immaculata. She currently teaches K through 6th grade general music, junior high choir and high school choir. Additionally, she is the theater director for fall productions and the spring variety show.

Paula Hyde is originally from Georgia and was transplanted to Kansas.  She graduated from Duluth High School in 1984 and from Georgia College in 1988 with a bachelor of science degree in political science and public administration. She graduated from Armstrong Atlantic University in 1990 with a social science certification for grades 7 to 12.  After moving from Georgia to Virginia, to Colorado, to Virginia again, to the Netherlands and then Germany with the U.S. Army, she completed her master’s degree in education from the University of Oklahoma, which had a satellite campus in Wuerzburg, Germany. Her family retired from the U.S. Army while stationed in Leavenworth. She is currently working on another master’s degree in U.S. History and Government from Ashland University in Ohio. Hyde is also adjunct faculty at Kansas City Kansas Community College and the University of Saint Mary. She is married to Chuck Hyde and has three children, Megan, Daniel and Kyle, and a dog named Spike.

Therese Melero is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Arts in French and a minor in Spanish. Melero also holds a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics from San Diego State University. She has taught French, Spanish and English as a Secondary Language (ESL) at junior high school, high school, adult and post-secondary levels. Melero has two graduates of Xavier and Immaculata. Currently she has one student attending Immaculata and one attending Xavier. She has been married 24 years and is a volunteer catechist at Immaculate Conception/St. Joseph Parish.

Manuel Hernandez, aka Mr. H, is a native Californian.  He was born and raised in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley and is a 1974 graduate of Redwood High School, in Visalia, CA.  He graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, in 1978 with a bachelor of science in general engineering.  He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army in August 2000, after serving in multiple leadership positions in the field artillery, and began his teaching and coaching career at Immaculata.  He holds a bachelor of arts degree in pastoral ministry from Kansas Newman University, a master of arts degree in adult and continuing education from Kansas State University, and an MA in pastoral ministry from the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis.  He has served in parish ministries since 1982 and continues to do so as a member of Sacred Heart/St. Casimir Parish, Leavenworth.  He is married to Maureen (Carney) Hernandez, of Prairie Village, KS, and is the proud father of five children, three of whom, Theresa, Phillip, and Mark, have graduated from Immaculata; Joseph attends Immaculata and Christina attends Xavier.

Suzanne O’Neil is a lifelong Catholic. She has attended Catholic schools in the Phoenix, AZ area from Kindergarten through 12th Grade and graduated from Gerard Catholic High School in Phoenix, AZ. She is a graduate of Arizona State University ’89 with a bachelor of science in business. She is currently working on a master’s degree in Catholic theology from the Augustine Institute in Denver, CO. She has volunteered in her local parishes in many different Mass ministries and taught parish religious education for over 16 years. Suzanne has been married to Joseph O’Neil for 26 years and they have 5 beautiful children who are all graduates of Immaculata High School.
